NEA hots up

Though still weeks away, the fifth yearly Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA) is currently gathering momentum within the country and in the U.S where the event holds. Scheduled for Saturday, September 18th, 2010 at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Art Centre, New York, the initiative aims at recognising the many contributions of Nigerian entertainers around the globe.
Already, the organisers are set to host artistes and fun lovers, who will be jetting to Obama’s territory for the ceremony expected to put the country’s name on the international platform.
“Without bragging, we are set to go. NEA 2010 is going to be an event extraordinaire. Nominees and invited guests should get ready to see something very different from what they are used to. All we intend to do is redefine awards ceremonies of Nigerian lineage,” a member of the production team said.
Idol West Africa’s Omawumi leads the list of nominees for this year’s award with five nominations, while the late Dagrin follows with four nominations; topping the likes of Tuface and Kefee, who also got multiple nominations.
Mo Hit’s producer Don Jazzy, So Sick, Jay Sleek, Dokta Frabz and Cobhams are also gunning for Best Producer of the year award; a category described as one of the toughest due to the caliber of people in contention. For sure, the judges will have difficulties choosing a winner among the nominees; they’ve all churned out quality works.
Meanwhile, the nominees have been spending hours online and on phone, canvassing for votes from members of the public. Voting started on July 9, and will end on August 31, 2010.
