JUST as many had started asking of her whereabouts, Niger Delta songbird, Ibiso Edwards, who made noticeable impact in the music industry with her debut album, No Cry, is back with yet another work. Titled Still Here, the 12-song album is already enjoying airplay, especially in the Niger Delta region, where the Rivers State-native commands a large following.
Currently, the artiste is touring the oil rich region as part of promotion for the new work, while plans are afoot for an international tour that will see the singer groove African countries and some selected countries in Europe.
Popularly called the Singing Bird, Ibiso appears ready to regain her ground in the industry, having been away for a long period.
“This (Still Here) is my Yuletide gift to all lovers of good, soul inspiring gospel music. This new work is fresh and hot from the throne room; it’s an expression of thanks, the revelation of God’s word and celebration of our culture,” the singer said in a chat.
An award winner, Ibiso, through her soulful songs, promotes the culture and beauty of Christianity, while preaching the message of love and hope. A fine artist, poet, fashion designer and writer, she’s optimistic that her foray into music is a call to serve humanity.
The winner, Best Artiste of the Year, NDAA (Niger Delta Advancement Awards), GOFA, CMA Awards and others, revealed that two videos have been shot from the latest work.
“Yes, I have shot two videos, they will soon hit the airwaves. Ombo Ibifaa directed the video. For the audio production, I worked with three producers; King Buskie, Princevibes and Akeem da Beat. I must say that these three guys did a whole lot to change the flavour of Still Here. The end result is, the listener will enjoy the taste of it from different sides.”

On the long break that heralded her latest effort, Ibiso informed, “music is a complicated art, you don’t just wake up and run into the studio, if you do, what you will get out will be for your listening pleasure only. The singer must be inspired to write the lyrics of the songs and she must also be in the right frame of mind to perform them on record. All these I just stated, if followed diligently will ultimately lead to one producing a good record.”

Continued the singer, “most times, artistes are pressured into doing music because of some reasons, but Ibiso does not belong to that category; I do music when the inspiration comes and so far, it has worked well for me. Aside from the feedback from my fans, I also enjoy listening to my own music. In fact, I never get tired of it because it inspires me to do more.”
The University of Port Harcourt graduate of Linguistics and Communications, with proficiency certificate in Basic Broadcast Presentation at the Alpha Institute of Broadcasting and Communications, has already mapped out strategies for promoting the new work.
“My management company has lined up a lot of activities for this Yuletide season through Easter period. We are currently on tour with Still Here; it’s been quite a busy period for me. This year will be busier because we have concluded plans to take Still Here across Africa and Europe. My people are currently working on that at the moment.”
Ibiso Edwards is officially managed by Intrinsic Communications in Nigeria.
